“Medical”: the first Gord ratings – games from former CDPR employees
On August 17, former CD Projekt Red employees will release a gloomy strategy in the Slavic setting called Gord. Some experts have already managed to try the new product and put the first grades. As it turned out, the game was not impressed by many experts, although there were also those who liked it even despite all the shortcomings. This is what journalists write in their reviews.
In general, critics were not very satisfied with Gord. Now its average Opencritic rating is 66 points out of 100 possible. In the game, users have to lead the dawn tribe and develop the settlement, simultaneously faced with difficulties in the person of enemy peoples and bloodthirsty monsters. Experts expected that the developers would withstand the declared concept with children’s sacrifices and immerse fans into serious experiences, encountering them with a difficult moral choice. In reality, as experts note, such moments simply do not cause the expected response – making a decision is quite simple, because the players do not have any emotional attachment to the characters.
“It does not pass even ten minutes from the beginning of the game, how the user must sacrifice a child to some big evil ugly demon. An attempt to make him make a difficult decision immediately comes down to the fact that the child in question, joined the retinue only a few minutes ago, which automatically deprives the script of any emotional impact. Instead, the players just have an unpleasant aftertaste when the indicated demon swallows the child. It is absolutely not necessary. In fact, attempts to shock fans in this way fail throughout the game, ” – Adrian Burrose, Thesixthaxis.
In addition, many journalists criticized the gameplay. It seemed to them quite superficial and uninteresting. Over time, users who, according to idea, need to turn a settlement into a real fortress, have no choice but to think through the location of the buildings.
“Gord gameplay also turned out to be boring and superficial. Your city, inhabited from 6 to 18 inhabitants, is limited proud, and each building in it must be built inside the picket fence so that it is considered protected. The space is expensive, as well as resources, so sometimes you need to make a choice and decide: “We want to get fishermen or hunters?“In fact, you will simply play a kind of tetris, placing buildings and, in the worst case, demolish what you no longer need to make room for more” – John Bolding, IGN.

Some critics did not appreciate the user interface – it was called very uncomfortable. Some of the specialists considered it that this speaks of the true attitude of the developers to their game.
“Everything spoils an uncomfortable user interface that makes it difficult to search and choose people. The characters are located on the right side of the screen, but their names are most often impossible to read because of their color, so you will have to look at all the heroes in turn, clicking on them several times, just to find out which of them mines useful resources a little faster. A click on the building shows who works in it, but does not allow you to choose and reassign people by roles. The information panel of the village residents completely blocks the notifications that it seems just to correct enough, but this is what indicates how many times, as I think, someone two or three salaries above ignored quality control specialists, ”- Sin, Rock Paper Shotgun.
And yet a number of experts noted that the game has their advantages. They praised the oppressive atmosphere created by the authors.
“Gord does not disappoint when it comes to its atmosphere created thanks to a combination of visual, sound and written aspects that enhance the constant feeling of oppression. The trees every now and then make noise in an endless wind, a gloomy soundtrack suitable in tone holds you in tension, and all this time the inhabitants of the settlement lead short text dialogs, reacting tiredly to the surrounding world and your actions. All this is a little ridiculous, but in this case it sounds like a compliment ” – Adam Barnes, Gamesradar+.
Finally, journalists noted reiglabia and plot. In their opinion, these aspects make passing a pleasant and interesting.
“Gord does not look very good, but the atmosphere rarely makes it relax. As a settlement simulator based on the plot, he offers moderate reiglabiness and a rather convincing main story. <. >In any case, this is a rather pleasant, albeit ruthlessly gloomy experience that will constantly keep you in suspense, ” – Mike Fraser, God is a geek.
