Bethesda plans to support Starfield updates and content at least five years
Bethesda plans to support Starfield for a long time after the release: in one of the last interviews, Todd Howard said that it is currently planning to support the game for at least five years to maintain an active community.
Thanks to additions, updates, mods and new versions.
" On the example of our previous games, such as Skyrim and Fallout, we realized that people want to play them for a very long time", – Howard explained. "Therefore, as for Starfield, I would say that the intention is to make it a game, which can be played for a long time".
One way to extend the life of the game, of course, is to support mods, which is perfectly known to Bethesda, creating large -scale role -playing games with the open world. There are a large number of mods for Skyrim, and it seems that Bethesda is well aware of this when it comes to the future of Starfield.
" If you look at such a game as Skyrim, which at the time of the release was a very, very big game, today, taking into account additions and mods, you will see that it has become much more. And after 12 years, they still play a lot in it. I think if you look at your audience, you will see that she likes the game and she wants to improve her. They want to add xyz, and developers, as a rule, too".
Bethesda expects that Starfield will also consist of official and modified additions – in any case, when official support for mods appears. Although, apparently, the developers are not yet very in a hurry with the release of tools, as they plan to support the game for at least five years.
"But this is also the question of what Starfield will be 3 months later, how it will be in 6 months, year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, 5 years? According to our experience, this scenario has a place to be, so let’s be ready for it, we will extract maximum benefits from it and use it. This is what we do here and in our modding community".
All this leads to the fact that the game will have two sources of updates – both from the developers at the expense of official extensions and from the players themselves at the expense of mods, which cannot be avoided in the case of Starfield. The goal is voiced – support for the game for at least five years, but most likely it will continue further.
In addition, the first extension of the Shattered Space has already been announced, but so far has no release dates, and official support for mods should appear in 2024 along with a special set of the developer, which will give an additional pulse in this direction.
